How to Draw Hands

Secret to Drawing a Hand

Are you like me and can't, just can't, draw hands correctly? Do you just hide their hands in their pockets or behind there back? You shouldn't approach drawing hands like that. It's a fact that many people believe drawing hands are so difficult.

I'll be honest, drawing hands are hard when you don't know what to look for. But once you see specific shapes, they become easier. I'm talking simple: triangle and square simple.

Shapes that Make the Hand

Look at your own hand. If you look at the basic shape of your palm, it forms the shape of of a square. The square can change a little when it's in a different position, but it's still there. Just think of the square as a sheet of paper: rectangular but can be bent and be presented in different angles. The shape where the palm meets the thumb resembles a triangle. Same as the square, it can look different from other angles. Then to the fingers. They make up a cylinder. The main four make three small cylinders, while the thumb is only two. The cylinders may overlap each other, covering others.

Remember, by changing the angle, the shapes might change a bit - but they're still there. Teach your eye to find basic shapes that make the hand. Luckily, they're easy.

Making the Hand

After the shapes, draw contour lines as you use the shapes for a guide. With the shapes, outlines are way easier. Make sure to consider line quality. Typically, parts of the hand that's larger has thicker lines
