Updated: Dec 8, 2019

One of the oldest forms of art in history is war art. War art is one of the many ways we know about ancient and medieval battles and battles from long ago. People have even made art about more recent conflicts like the second world war and the Korean war.

One of the reasons why war art was made is because the leaders of ancient times wanted to show the world their victories and intimidate other civilizations. War art also shows the suffering that war causes like civilian casualties and dead soldiers.

Another one of the first recorded piece of war art in history existed as long ago as the ancient Egyptians. Another of the most recent war paintings was painted by picasso to describe the guernica bombing in the Spanish civil war which took place 3 years before the start of ww2.

War paintings are used to show huge battles and what they were like. They were especially used before the age of photography because that was the only way of knowing how historical events clearly it is even used today in the next few articles I will describe the paintings and art of multiple eras.
